Google Analytics

Traffic, behaviour, and conversions.

Google Analytics (GA4) is the data source for what happens on your site — who visits, where they come from, how they behave, and what converts.

What it covers

Traffic and behaviour on your site: visitors, traffic sources, conversions, and navigation patterns.

Feeds the Organic group of Pulse, alongside Search Console and Google Business Profile.

We read only aggregated data (not individual, not personal). The connection is read-only.

Prerequisites

  1. A GA4 account (Universal Analytics was discontinued in 2023 — only GA4 works).
  2. At least “Viewer” permissions on the property you want to connect.
  3. Conversion events configured in GA4 — without these, the conversion readings come back empty.

How to connect

  1. In Integrations, click Google Analytics.
  2. Log in with the Google account that has access to the GA4 property.
  3. Authorise read-only access.
  4. Choose your site’s property.
  5. Done. Syncing begins.

The first sync pulls up to 13 months of history, depending on what GA provides.

Common issues

  • “I can’t see the property”: check you’re logged in with the right Google account. If you manage several, pick the one with access to the property.
  • “Conversions at zero”: confirm in GA4 you have events marked as conversion. Without that, we read zero.
  • “Bounce rate looks odd”: GA4 uses a different definition from Universal Analytics — the numbers may look higher or lower.
  • “Traffic doesn’t match other tools”: bot filters, sampled data, time zones — every tool measures slightly differently. We show what GA reports.
